While improvements are happening gradually, there is still a long way to go before travel returns to its pre-COVID pandemic state. Many countries have implemented strict travel restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus. It can be stressful to determine which countries are open for tourists and which require various documents for entry. Why endure the hassle of planning an extensive trip when you can enjoy beautiful local destinations just as much? There's no need to wait for quarantine to be lifted before hitting the road again. Once you have gathered your essentials, you can then book a place to stay that suits your style, whether it’s a cozy bed and breakfast, a chic boutique hotel, or even a rustic cabin in the woods. I recently took a road trip lasting an hour and a half to Long Beach Island (LBI), New Jersey, which is about 100 miles from my home in New York City. I reserved a lovely beach house with some friends and family, where we spent a week enjoying fun and relaxation together.

While we were there, a power outage occurred because of thunderstorms, but it didn't bother us at all. Even with more than a day without electricity, we managed to have a great time. I had brought some homemade French brioche, which my friends adored. One of them used it to prepare French toast for breakfast, and it was absolutely amazing (just so you know, I can bake some fantastic bread).

The trip was exactly what we all needed as we discovered local restaurants, shops, and the renowned lighthouse. We rented bicycles and cycled around the town. We witnessed a stunning sandcastle contest on the beach, visited nearby family for a delightful home-cooked meal under the stars, and enjoyed a game of miniature golf at Jen's Links on LBI. It was my first experience playing golf, and I had a lot of fun. I’d even say I did pretty well. I’d love to do it again!

We concluded the week with a delightful walk by the ocean, capturing photos and creating wonderful memories. To finish, we enjoyed a delightful seafood meal at the Daymark restaurant, beautifully arranged in accordance with CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, accompanied by live country and classical music. It was truly magical, simple, fun, and refreshing. I couldn't have wished for a better quick escape. This experience reminded me that we can still create beautiful memories in our own country, especially when international travel is limited.
